Alan Lewis
Description Alan J. Lewis, Ph.D., joined our Board in June 2005 and serves as the Chairman of the Compensation Committee. Since January 2009, Dr. Lewis has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. From February 2006 until December 2008, Dr. Lewis was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Novocell, Inc, a privately held regenerative disease biotechnology company. Prior to joining Novocell, starting in 2000, he was President of Celgene Signal Research, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Celgene Corporation, a pharmaceutical company. From February 1994 to August 2000, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Signal Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where he guided the company to its successful acquisition by Celgene. From 1979 to 1994, Dr. Lewis held a number of positions at Wyeth-Ayerst Research and its predecessor, Wyeth Laboratories, Inc., including Vice President of Research at Wyeth-Ayerst. Dr. Lewis has published over 120 full manuscripts and has written and edited seven books. Dr. Lewis was a Research Associate at Yale University from 1972 to 1973. Dr. Lewis received a B.Sc. in physiology and biochemistry from Southampton University, Southampton, Hampshire, U.K. and a Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Wales, Cardiff, U.K. Dr. Lewis currently serves as the director of private companies, Cytochroma, Inc., Ambit Biosciences and Biotica.
