Description AltaGas Ltd., a diversified energy infrastructure company, engages in gas, power, and regulated utilities businesses in Canada, and the northern and western United States. It operates through three segments: Gas, Power, and Utilities. The Gas segment engages in natural gas gathering and processing, natural gas liquids (NGL) extraction and fractionation, transmission, storage, and natural gas marketing activities. It owns 4 natural gas transmission systems with transportation capacity of approximately 539 million cubic feet per day; 3 NGL pipelines with combined capacity 151,600 stock tank barrels per day; and a network of 6,600 kilometers of gathering and sales lines that gather gas upstream of processing facilities and deliver natural gas into downstream pipeline systems. This segment also provides energy consulting and supply management services to commercial end-users; buys and resells energy; and offers gas transportation, storage, and gas marketing for producers. It offers energy management and gas services to commercial, industrial, agricultural, and institutional end-users. The Power segment is involved in the sale of electricity and ancillary services in Alberta; and the sale of electricity in British Columbia, Colorado, Michigan, and North Carolina. As of December 31, 2012, it had 589 megawatts of generating capacity from gas-fired, coal-fired, wind, biomass, and run-of-river assets. The Utilities segment operates natural gas distribution utilities and a rate-regulated natural gas storage utility. It owns and operates utility assets that deliver natural gas to end-users in Alberta, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia in Canada; and Michigan and Alaska in the United States.
